I have a terrible memory (or, as they say, la memoria de un burro). Len is always saying, "Don't you remember when we went to ____" or "You remember... we talked about that yesterday." And no, I don't remember. Unfortunately, I don't keep journals, which would help... my handwriting is so bad that even I can't read it and my spelling is worse (very embarrassing when teaching ESL).
So, when we started talking about a 5 month trip to Europe (in 2004), I didn't know what to do. I could just visualize myself forgetting all of it within a few months of getting home. But, I knew that I would never make notes in a actual, physical journal of any sort. I thought, however, that I might be able to post something every few days from an internet cafe or library (this was before we traveled with a lap top). Friends and family would know where we were, more or less, and then I'd just delete it when we got home. Instead, I found that I enjoyed reading what I wrote (despite the misspellings that sneaked through spell-check), and that it was a great reminder of details that I might otherwise have forgotten. So, rather than deleting anything, I upgraded, and now keep track of all our trips... all of which you can access through the links at the right. I'd suggest that you open them in a new tab/window as Typepad's navigation system is not very user friendly.
If you have questions or comments or links to trips you've taken, please feel free to post them. If you would like to recommend a trip you really loved, please do so. I'm always looking for new ideas.
