It started out as a simple trip to the Grand Canyon, so that we could compare it to the Copper Canyon in Mexico. It ended up as 5000+ miles, 24 days, at least 10 national parks or monuments, and some of the most beautiful... and desolate ... country I've ever seen.

This is an approximation of our route ... as close as Rand McNally would let me make it. We camped most nights, except for almost a week with my brother in Albuquerque, and a few days in motels other places. For example, when we got to Bullfrog Bay (on Lake Powell) it was 109 degrees and no shade in the campground. Fortunately, there was a very nice lodge.
