Joy joined us for a gig at the Minnesota Veterans' Home, in July, 2014. She had played with Lazy Does It before, but it'd been several years - way too long. Joy plays regularly with the Pig's Eye Traditional Jass Band, along with LDI regulars Garry, Gordy, and Bill. It's always a joy to hear Joy play, because she has the idiomatic, "tailgate" or "gut-bucket" trombone style nailed. Her horn has a slide, and she's not shy about using it. Her solos are exciting to hear, and she's fun to watch, as well. It's clear that she loves this music.
Joy has a day job, working for a suburban community newspaper. In addition to the "Pigs," she also plays regularly in a local Ska band.
